The City Dock is at the heart of the Historic District, where many of the city's orginal 18th century buildings still stand. In fact, the skyline of the friendly Annapolis harbor has remained much the same for hundreds of years.

Here you'll find the Market House, harbormaster's office, work boats, tour boats, pleasure craft, and visiting ships. Numerous shops and restaurants line the waterfront. Sightseeing cruises and water taxis leave from the dock regularly.

Throughout the year, at nearly any time of day, locals and visitors are drawn to the water and scenes of the City Dock. Whether it's an after-dinner stroll or lunchtime on a sunny bench, the dock is the center of the town's activities.

During the summer, the Dock hosts outdoor Navy band concerts and festivities. In the fall, the largest boat shows in the world are held at the Annapolis City Dock. During the holidays, you'll see a splendid display of sailboats all decked out with Christmas lights.

Located at the foot of the dock, you'll see the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley memorial, commemorating the site where the young African, immortalized in Alex Haley's "Roots," was sold into slavery in the 18th century. And you'll find a life-size sculpture of Alex Haley reading to children.
